Forums for Community
Where do you live? I bet some of you are more than 30 miles outside of Fayetteville.
How often do you meet fellow OMNI supporters in person? If you're like me, the answer is "not nearly often enough."
Take a moment to think about:
- how many conversations you're missing
- how many friendships have passed you by
- how much laughter and joy stays locked away
- how much inspiration you haven't shared or received
- how much of your wisdom and knowledge, that you're itching to spread, remains hidden from the community
All because you just can't be there.
I understand. That's the way of things nowadays. We're a culture of unfortunates: sprawl, distance between friends... so much keeps us apart, it's a wonder we stay as close as we do.
That's where technology comes in.
It definitely has its downsides, and needs some work at times, but it is amazing for keeping people connected. Sure, it's not as good as face-to-face, but in today's world of nearly 7 billion people and easy travel, your best friend could be in Japan tomorrow. Without technology like phones, email, and skype, it's basically bye-bye friendship.
Here at OMNI, we're not interested in good-byes. We want you to know your fellow members and friends in the peace-building, justice-crafting, and ecology-strengthening community, no matter where they are. We're doing our utmost to give you the tools to create meaningful friendships, relationships, and connections across the plains and oceans.
That's the point of these forums. Do you see that "Forums" tab at the top of the page? That's your space to talk about anything that's on your mind, with any OMNI supporter anywhere:
- Want to stay connected with supporters of one of OMNI's stellar programs? We're constantly expanding the space for you to do it.
- Got a brilliant perspective on any of the events, information, or action alerts OMNI shares with you? We've got you covered.
- Just want to shoot the breeze, meet OMNI's VISTAs, chat about an opportunity, or something else? Check out the All the Rest section.
But we still have a long way to go. There are so many ways out there to connect, and we know we're just scratching the surface of how we can all stick together.
Do you know of an amazing online tool that would keep OMNI members better connected? You have to tell us about it! Visit the Website Feedback & Questions forum and give us all the details!
Or is there not a forum for the discussion you want to have? Let us know! We'll build it in!
Because when it comes right down to it, we're only as strong as the community members who step up and support each other. Even if you live right in Fayetteville, if you're not participating online, all of the folks who live far away, and even the people you never meet face-to-face, are missing out on your valuable words and insights.
It's a tough fact, but technology is strong, capable, and here to stay. And it's effective. Without it, it's unlikely that we'll be able to make that culture of peace on a truly national or global scale. Or, honestly, on a local scale.
So take a deep breath and take the plunge! If you get lost along the way, no worries. Get in touch with us, and we'll do everything we can to help you out. That's why we're here. For you.
Thank you so much! Have amazing conversations!
